This means that employees use their own solutions, tools and systems outside the control of the IT department.<\/p>\n\n<p>This phenomenon is not new, but it has grown as digital services have become more accessible. It only takes a few clicks to create an account on an external tool, download an app or store files in a private cloud service. And even if the intention is good \u2013 to solve a problem quickly \u2013 the consequences can be significant for the organisation.<\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:24px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Why does shadow IT occur?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p>Most employees who use their own tools do so not to circumvent rules, but because they feel they do not have access to the right support.
